The PVSmile project officially kicked off with its 1st Project Meeting, held on 24–25 November 2025 in Athens, Greece, bringing together project partners both on-site and online.
Over two intensive days, consortium members aligned on the project vision, work plan, and initial implementation steps, laying the foundation for a strong and collaborative start. Discussions focused in particular on:
· Community-centred photovoltaic lifecycle solutions
· Smart-grid–ready energy communities
· AI-powered digital tools, data spaces, and cybersecurity
PVSmile is a Horizon Europe project, coordinated by the Decision Support Systems (DSS) Lab of the National Technical University of Athens (EPU-NTUA). The project aims to transform photovoltaic systems from passive grid components into flexible, community-level assets fully integrated into smart electricity grids.
By combining artificial intelligence, digital twins, smart-grid technologies, and community-centred governance models, PVSmile addresses the entire photovoltaic lifecycle, from planning and deployment to operation, flexibility
provision, and reuse, while empowering energy communities and citizens to actively participate in the energy transition.
The Athens meeting marked a strong starting point for a collaborative journey towards smarter grids and empowered energy communities.
